Book Club
This is the first year that I, Emily, will be running Book Club! Mrs. Swanger is our teacher sponsor and she is a great person to ask for reccomendations for books.
This club is not meant to be an English Class where the leaders pick a book and force everyone to read it. It is supposed to be free and open to everyone- no matter how much you read!
The theme for book club this year is based on genres. I thought that it would be a very interesting idea to allow everyone to pick a book they want to read but in a specific genre that is voted upon. I thought it to be better than everyone picking a book and talking about it. That would take too long to discuss! Picking an author is also too specific!
If you don't like the genre, all I suggest is that you try a book in that genre. If you don't finish the book, I want you to talk about it in the next meeting and explain.
My goal with this club is to have people enjoy themselves and for everyone to participate. I want this to be the club that people enjoy coming to and are not just coming for CAS hours or college application. I am completely open to suggestions and how to improve the club.
Also, I highly suggest that if you are interested in reading and the writing process that you join Creative Writing Club at the IAM. It is run entirely by students and is every Thursday after school. Here is the link to the website: http://iamcreativewriting.weebly.com/
